Dutchman Joeri Zandvliet beat a field of 518 players who started the UKIPT Manchester main event, where the UK and Ireland Poker Tour burst its cap to offer a ₤259,000 prize pool.
Zandvliet’s heads up opponent was Englishman Jack Ellwood who took second place for £37,500.
The final action almost mirrored the deciding hand at UKIPT Galway, with Zandvliet’s safe pair of nines going up against Ellwood’s over cards in the form of Ad-Qs
Ellwood was favorite to win when he flopped top pair with a Qd. A brick on the turn for both players held the suspense before the 9d hit on the river making Zandvliet’s set.
